The "legal" answer is that we are an international non profit organization dedicated to the education about and recreation of the arts and sciences of pre 17th century Europe.

The "non-legal" answer - is that we are a group of individuals that enjoy the honor, chivalry and romance of a bygone era. We attempt to recreate the more enjoyable aspects of medieval life - including but not limited to - Honorable combat (through Heavy Fighting and Fencing), target-based tournaments (through thrown weapons and archery), exploring the arts and sciences of the era (such as: brewing, calligraphy, illumination, candle-making, soap making, sewing, weaving, metal working and much, much more), and through service activities to ensure that everyone can have the best time possible.

What is the Shire of Sterlynge Vayle?

As we are a medieval based group, our "Known World" has been divided up into appropriate groupings based on size and location. There are 19 Kingdoms throughout the known world. These are made up of Principalities, Baronies, Dominions and Shires. The Shire of Sterlynge Vayle is the Chapter based in the Greater Binghamton Area. We have active participants in Walton, Delhi, Oneonta, Windsor, Binghamton, and more!

What Can the Shire of Sterlynge Vayle do for me?

There are two types of answers to this question, 1) for the individual and 2) for a group.

For the individual:

We can teach! We can help you learn about any aspect of medieval life you are interested in! If no one locally knows about the topic you want to learn - someone from Syracuse or Ithaca NY may be willing to come and teach! Or, someone in the Shire can find research, and we can learn with you!

Make New Friends! We are a friendly group - learning together, having fun and often car-pooling to other groups events (with the price of gas being what it is today - a full car with shared costs saves EVERYONE money!)

Exercise! - Fencing and Heavy Fighting are both excellent forms of exercise.

Family Fun! - We are a family organization with activities available for all ages. With eligibility for youth tournaments starting at age 6 - there are almost no limits to the amount of fun children can have.

For a group:

We are more than happy to come put a demo on for your organizations fair or festival. We can "Wow!" the attending crowds with our tournaments - and demonstrate examples of arts and sciences!

We can entertain at a fundraising or awards dinner! With each table or group of tables having their own fighter to cheer for - we involve the attendees in the fun! With crowd involvement make your dinner or event one that will be talked about for years!
